Here's what is happening, we're changing to a new domain and moving the SQL2000 Server off of the server that houses CE10 and moving it to a dedicated SQL server. CE10 will remain on the same server. What I need to do is move the CMS (instances, schedules, users, the whole works) from the source server (current CE10 server) to the destination server (new SQL Server). Can I use the import wizard and choose the current CMS as the source and choose the new SQL server as the destiniation? I read this thread thread782-1088389 but I need some more info. Will there be any other implications of changing domains? We'll be setting up new service accounts for Crystal and will change the servers appropriately. I'm assuming that I'll have to change the ODBC connection on the server as well as each and EVERY report one by one!!! *sigh* Have I left something out?

You should be OK as it's described, however read this for changing the database locations:

It's a bit confusing because at first it appears that you're speaking of changing the CE database, then you speak as if the database used by the reports is changing.

Anyway, the above resolves the latter.

Hi,
Check the docs..There is detailed info about creating and using a new CMS - you will be able to migrate the existing data to the new CMS database..After that migration, your CE system will work with the new database.

If your reports also need to have their datasources changed because their databases are now different as well, then Synapse's reply is your ticket..

Is there a difference between installing the CMS (Intelligence Tier) and installing the Processsing Tier (Job Server, Page server...). Are they one in the same or can they be installed in different locations?

Hi,
Quite separate, but inter-dependent services..

Look at the Admin guide on 'Scaling Your System'
for info on separating the various servers used by CE...

Okay,
I've managed to setup the new CMS (on a new domain), repoint the old servers to that CMS and everything starts up just fine. The problem I'm running into now is the reports all need to run using new logon info. I've changed all the reports and for the most part, the reports run fine but there are a handful of them that won't run from within CE. Ideas? When I run the reports, they just say incorrect logon parameters, but everything is the same for the other reports and they run just fine. Do you suppose if we just moved that old server to the new domain that that may solve the problem?

Hi,
What database and connection method?

The Schedule Manager ( from the admin launchpad) can change the database info for 1 or more reports in a folder, or you can go into the CMC and check what is set and change it, if needed.

SQL...not sure what you mean by connection method. I think we've solved half the problem. The servers start now (I had to delete and re-add them as the system must have had a problem when we changed the server over the new domain). What I'm getting now is "Communication failed with all configured Web Component Servers" when I try to get the login screen for the CE webpage. I'm going to investigate this further. The strange this is the Web Component Server is started so not sure where the problem lies. Thanks Turkbear!

Does the Web Component Servers also need to be installed on the new server as the new CMS?

Hi,
The WCS needs to 'know' where to find the new CMC..

SqlServer Database?
By connection method, I meant : ODBC, ADO/OLEDB,Native Driver...

The domain name is coded into the server name, so moving to a new domain requires,
most times, doing just what you did..

Any firewalls, proxys involved..

Can you ping the server running the WCS ?

SQLServer Database
ODBC

No firewalls or proxys and I can ping the server running the WCS. On the one server (name=s02), all that's installed is the CMS (also the SQL server). On the other server (name=s002), all the other servers are installed (also is the IIS server) and they all point to the new CMS. Does this need to change?

Hi,

From the s02 can you ping s002 ( and vice-versa)?

Are they in the same subnet?

Are the services running under a Domain account that has rights to the CMS database?

Hi Turkbear!
As I was looking for a solution, I happend to go back into the CMC and low and behold everything was working. Not sure if something took awhile to load or what but things all seem to be working again (can login and view all the reports with no problem.) NOW, all this being said, what will happen when we eventually change the name of this server? Will the name just propagate down and be seamless? *crosses fingers* :) A huge thanks goes out to you. Not sure where we'd be right now! :)
