Backup and MDBData files are growing 1

What is the best way to handle(shink) the size of the MDBData file and the back file. The backup file is a fie created by using MSBackup to back the exchange data. I received the recomendation to do this directly from MS support.

The really basic question I am asking is how do I control the size exchange database most efficiently. thanks
