I bought a set of Aloha FOB and BOH. The server is Radiant 1.2GHz 385Meg RAM and 40 Gig HD. Software, WindowXP 2002 and Aloha 5.31. I want to migrate to a new server with better hardware. This is my plan and I do have a few concerns.
I bought a Ghost software to perform image copy of the file server hard drive.
The new server will have two NIC cards. One for internal network and the other for internet.

Once the hard drive boot up, I'll configure the network setup on both NIC cards to match the original setup.

Issue/concern.
1. The new computer do not have parallel printer port for the key. Any recommendation to get around this problem? Is there a USB to parallel port adapter? If there is, any problem I may run into?

2. If it does not work, I'll put the old server back. I am concern about any change/modification on term1(FOB) when connectiong with the new server.
To prevent this I also make an image copy of the term1 before attempting install the new server.

Thanks

I'd try a PCI parallel card rather than usb.

2 NIC's used to be the way but my dealer recommends 1. Just plug everything into a good switch and get a good router. I've been using a Zywall 2+ works great and gives me public wifi with great security.

I've changed out (upgraded) many BOH pc's over the years. I never Ghosted, always did a fresh install of OS and Aloha. I just like the feel of a fresh install. I usually just slave my old Aloha HD in the new server. Only downside is I usually have to bring in the dealer for an hour cause I never get it just right.

I would't worry much about the term 1 (master) concern. Just deal with it when it's time. Should be easy.

I'm going to assume that you do NOT have the installation CD's.

First get the port for the Key or else you'll have to pay to have it upgraded to USB, but that is possible from your dealer.

Place your new machine on the network named any other than alohaboh (assuming that is the name of your BOH)and in the workgroup ibertech.
Create a user on the new system that matched the one on the old system that aloha is running under. Same username and password.

On the old system you need to stop the ctrlsrv and edcsrv services, if your running ecards you need to kill the services for that too.

do an xcopy of the Aloha dir using the /h/i/c/k/e/y switch
wait
wait more
get coffee
wait
smoke
wait
copy done.

make sure you get the regiberX.X bat file it may be hanging out outside the aloha dir

Now take the old unit off the network

rename the new unit alohaboh and set it to the same IP as the old one

reboot

run the regiberX.X

install your HASP

reboot

with any luck you are done.

if your terminals will not find the file server and the ctrlsrv says unable to register service you could have a lanaconfig problem. That is a whole other posting.

This is a very brief outline but gives you the meat of the process.
