Anyone out there have any success installing the backup agent for Lotus Notes on NT? I've tried several times and keep getting the message "failed to modify the notes.ini" file even though it says the install was successful. I checked to make sure the notes.ini file was not read only. It wasn't. After the install, only the uninstall and readme type file were displayed, no agent! The backup itself says I have a session credential conflict with the Domino server when attempting to backup. Any ideas??? HELP!!!

Try and determine if a process or user has the notes.ini file open and locked. That will be the key to your solution. Check for shares or open files through the server manager, and consider stopping the Notes server if you can.

The credential conflict could be a clue, too. That means you are logged onto the Notes server from the backup server with an account other thant the ARCserve service account. Do you have any mapped drives, Notes clients, or Explorer sessions open form the backup server?

If all else fails, try using the remote install operation. I've seen this work when installing at the console has failed. Just be sure to log out completely.

I recently installed the Notes client on 2 boxes without a hitch. I did install the BAOF and NT clients first.

Also, are you ising the latest agent? If you are using AS2000, be sure to get SP3, and install the agent from there. Ignore the one on the ARCserve CD.

Good Luck!
