Backup Agen Error -- (306)

Looking for any Helpful advice.
I'm using AS2000 to back up Exchange 5.5 sp4
it has been working well until about a day ago
I started to get the error:

E8604 Failed to start backup. (DBNAME=\, EC=Backup Agent Error -- (306) "Invalid input path".)

either I get the above error or
the agent crashes on the exchange server

any ideas?

Try stopping and starting the backup agent RPC service on the exchange box.

If this doesn't work, you may have to re-install the exchange agent, re-authenticate, then bring it to the same service pack level as the arcserve server.
