Two years ago I attended course on iAS 9.0.4 and now I mus use this version.

We were remainded on course that after install make some backup(s) with I think dcmctl.

After install I made backup of infrastructure and mid tier (on same Windows host) issuing commands

dcmctl saveInstance -dir <InstanceBackupDirectory>

both for infrastructure and mid tier each time starting dcmctl from apropriate bin directory of each instance.

I am afraid that I have to backup something more important with dcmctl but didn't take written note in my Oracle coursebook.

We were told that some dcmctl type backup is essential and should be made immediately after install, otherwise mistake with configuration of iAS would requre reinstall.

Does anybody know what backup I should do?

Also despite using infra and mid_tier names for instances on same host - Oracle suggestion (and accordingly associated Oracle services in Windows) to assure correct starting order of Windows services (infra, then mid_tier) after restart (Windows reebot) iAS is not operational until intervention from EM (starting components, somethimes in various orders) and most often requiring issuing

dcmctl restoreInstance -dir <InstanceBackupDirectory> for both

infra and mid_tier.

Whats more, somethimes even after this instace restore I couldn't restore iAS to operational state and had to make fresh install.

I think that I need to save something other than these instances like iAS database.

OID?

I made similar posting to forum 10g, but after that discovered that this forum is more appropriate.

I am thinking about disk images allready but this involves restart of host.

This is becoming quite serious to me, as sometimes UPS maintenance or similar thing shut down iAS and I am trouble getting it back to life, and yesterday I couldn't do it even with backuped instances and after two hours decided to reinstall iAS.

Any suggestions?

I must use 9.04, not newer.
Don't use any patch now.

This seems buggy product and I feel very uncomfortable touching anything in EM after sufficiently sucessfull configuration.
