Is it possible to backup using ArcserveIT for Netware to a networked PC's local drive?

Situation Arcserve is still running on the Novell 5.0 servers but the tape drives are broken. Prices of hard drives have dropped that backing into a hard drive is a cheap alternative - if possible... ========================================

This is not possible with ARCserve for Netware. The best you can do is to schedule a copy job. It will replicate the data from one node to another, but you will loose things like compression and increase the risk of having no data at all in case of a real disaster when there is no media offsite that holds your critical data

Try Windows 98/Windows 2000 freebie backup. It can back up to a file but you will lose Netware compression (although you can compress the resulting image). I've used it several times to back up stuff from Novell servers and eventually write to CDROM. (You might even get direct-cd to work)

Alternatively, install arcserve agent for the target workstation and perform a copy job to it perhaps ??
