Hello,

We have Legato Networker version 7.2.1
MS Exchange server 2003 SP1 - 6.5.7226
Networker Module for Exchange Server version 4.0.2.

When I want to backup EXCH:MB it is going really slow - about 1 MB per second. When I look at monitor I see that networker backups single mailbox and wait... After some time - about a minute - it starts with another mailbox. The speed is really small - (it takes 16 hours to backup about 55GB of mailboxes). Could anyone help? Other backups works fine - about 10 MB per second (and more).

Thanks..

are the "other" backups on the same server as EX?

are you going through a SAN? over the network?

has anything changed?

When I backup EXCH:IS, then it is going well. The problem is occured only when backuping mailboxes. The conditions for backuping IS and MB are the same - not bussiness time, same server, same connection. But mailboxes goes slow.

In the new Exchange module you have a new cool feature when backing up mailboxes; Wildcards. This means you now can take advantage of the client parallelism and actually get 4 savestreams from the client. The way you do this is by specifying your savesets using this syntax:

MSEXCH:MB/A*
MSEXCH:MB/B*
MSEXCH:MB/C*
.
.

This should really cut down on the time it takes for the backup to complete. See the Exchange admin guide for more options about using wildcards.

OK I understand.

That still seems like a LONG time to backup the mboxes, though I can see why it would take longer.

NWNinja's idea looks like a good one.

NWNinja - Its good idea, I'll try it.
