Backtrace MAC in layer-3

Is it possible to backtrace the source MAC-address in a VLAN with layer-3 switches? Someone is perhaps sharring a file and you want to know who. As I understand layer-3 replaces the orriginal source MAC-address. Is there perhaps a nother (better) solution?

Pleace help a newbee….
