OK, here's what I've got. I have a Baystack 450-12F with a GBIC MDA and Nortel Copper GBIC installed connected to a 5510-24T with a Cat 5e patch cable plugged into the 5510 on port #1 and into the 450 on port #13.
Both devices have been updated to the latest available software from Nortel's Web Site. Spanning tree is disabled for all ports on both switches. Note - I cannot disable autonegotiation for port #13 on the 450. Both switches return an error if you try to change the flow control with autonegotiation enabled.
Test #1 - Autonegotiation enabled on both switches. Spanning tree disabled.
1. 5510 port #1 shows a link light and status is up in the interface at 1000/Full. Flow control shows disabled. Spanning tree shows the port as disabled.
2. 450 port #13 has no link light and the status is down in the interface. Spanning tree shows the port as forwarding.
Test #2 - Autonegotiation disabled on the 5510. Spanning tree disabled.
1. 5510 port #1 is set to 1000/Full Flow control disabled. Staus shows up. Spanning tree shows the port as disabled.
2. 450 port #13 has no link light and the status is down in the interface. Spanning tree shows the port as forwarding.
Note - changing the flow control state on the 5510 does not change port or flow control state on the 450.
Test # 3 - Autonegotiation enabled on both switches. Spanning tree enabled.
1. 5510 port #1 shows a link light and status is up in the interface at 1000/Full. Flow control shows disabled. With either normal of fast learning the port state goes from Listening to Learning to Forwarding.
2. 450 port #13 has no link light and the status is down in the interface. With either normal of fast learning the port state goes from Listening to Learning to Forwarding.
Things that concern me:
1. I can't disable autonegotiation on the 450 for port #13. I can't test flow control.
2. With spanning tree disabled on the 5510 to port never goes to forwarding.
What am I missing?
