I just turned off a VM in Xencenter and backed it up to a network drive using the 'Export as backup' function. When the backup had finished the file was only 7Gb in size, which is about the size of the C: drive without the page file of my 2008 server. I was under the impression that the image size would be the size of the virtual disk which is 40Gb. I don't think it's configured to setup the disks as sparse provisioned. The backup verified correctly so I don't think it's damaged.

Should I expect the backup file to be the same size as the virtual disk?

Cheers.

Not sure, re-import the VM GIve it a new name and create a Xen ONLY network.
CHange the network config to the Xen only connection and start it up.

Does it work? Are all files there?
