First of all, how do I reply directly to the person who gave me the valuable info. in the first place. And then I'm curious about backing up/restoring. First whats the difference...and where do you put your backup? And where do I find the backup in Vista? Why do you back up Windows every day? And about having to do a reinstall...how does one do that without the original Vista disks? Please explain, it seems there is much more involved than I expected. Thanks.

Start - Help and Support - Type in "backup" into the search box.

You reply to a message in the box below the message marked "Message".

What are the details of your machines specifications. Some pre-installed OEM machines require that you create your own Recovery Disks as soon as possible usually via any Recovery Partitions that are already installed on your hard drive.

Any supplied user manual is a good place to start.

Personally I use third party software for backup purposes, and find that making a full image of the partition and saving it on DVD or spare hard drive partitions, about once per fortnight, suffices for my needs.
