Backing up voicemail on Merlin Legend 2

I know how to back up the "System" through either the phone or the SPM interface.

I imagine this backs up the configuration of the system, correct?

Would that be the configuration of the auto attendants, user's greetings, extensions, and so forth?

But what about voicemail?

Can that be backed up on a Merlin Legend?

I don't have the version in front of me (as shown in WinSPM) but my Merlin Messaging Quick Reference reads "Release 1" with 1999 for the date of the manual. Pretty old it would seem.

All that can be backed up on the Release 1 Merlin Messaging is just the "Structure" (i.e. Mailboxes, Auto attendants and those items).

These items are saved on the PCMCIA Port Card.

The Greetings CANNOT be saved with the Release 1.

With Release 2.5 or later, a GUI Interface was introduced and all of that CAN be backed up to a PC with the proper software.

The R1 doesn't talk to that software.

So greetings are not backed up and no voicemail either?

Or would the "mailbox" hold the voicemail...?

OK, this is what I see in the WinSPM interface:

Legend Release 7, v 9.0

But is that what counts?

Or is it the version of Merlin Messaging?

Otherwise, I have used the WinSPM interface to backup the system and the resulting .ams file is only 102 KB. Not much.

I doubt all the greetings and voicemail would fit into a 102 KB file, not to mention the "Structure".

Log into the System Administrator's mailbox on the Merlin Messaging, press 9 for Programming, the 8 for Backup and Restore. Follow the prompts to back it up from there.

That's what I've been doing. I' m trying to determine exactly what is being backed up, either to the card or to the PC via WinSPM.

I provided the version for Merlin Legend but I'm not sure about Merlin Messaging.

It looks like more or less is backed up depending on the version.

Judging from the 102KB .ams file produced by the backup in WinSPM, I'm guessing that it's only the "structure".

But you don't use WinSPM to back up the Merlin Messaging, nor is the ams file on the PC card in the Legend Processor the backup file for the Merlin Messaging.

There is a PC card in the Merlin Messaging. This is the port license card, as well as the backup and restore card. When you log into mailbox 0#, press 9 for programming and 8 for backup/restore, the file is created on the PC card in the Merlin Messaging, and you won't be able to see that file anywhere in WinSPM or on your computer.

Log into mailbox 0#, and instead of pressing 9 for programming, press 7 to find out the exact release of Merlin Messaging you have, and if it is 2.5 or greater, download the programming GUI that connects through the LAN port and allows you to back it up to your computer.

Is this right?

Merlin Messaging system structure is backed up to the Port Card: mailboxes, autoattendants, and those items (Merlinman's post above).

And with version 1-1-9, that's about it.

But what is backed up to the .ams file in this location?

C:\Program Files\Avaya Solutions\WinSPM\Site Data\"Our Site"\ourbackup.ams

As Tommy said, it is the Legend stuff ONLY! If you read the Legend documentation for SPM, this is all spelled out there... The file for a Legend backup is not very large. The same is true for a Magix backup... And they are completely separate from any other device like a Voice Mail module, etc. installed in the system.
