What is the best way to back up a vmware box?
We had one that was using the linix version of vmware and it blew up last week and none of the machines were being backed up, For are other backups we have been using Backup exec 11d

What VMware product are you running? Workstation, ESX, VMware Server? Also, what are you looking to backup? the host or the guests?

On linux I would have a cron job just tar the vm directory and scp it off to another system.

before you can backup a VM, it must be put into a hot backup mode to ensure consistency. If lets say there is an exchange or oracle running in the VM,this app should also be put into hot backup before putting the VM in hot backup mode.
