When I attended the MD110 "Implement and Manage" class, the instructor mentioned at the very end of the class that it was possible to telnet into the NIU and copy REL1 to another HD (like your local HD on your computer). I am not very familiar with telneting; can anyone tell me more specifically how to do this? We're using BC9. Thanks in advance!

For anyone who was wondering, this was the reply I got when I e-mailed the instructor with my question:

You can't telnet into the system with BC9...you must have BC11 and the NIU board.
The NIU will have an IP address assigned to it with a LAN connection, and you can FTP into that and transfer the
disk contents with an FTP command. I use WSFTP LE from IPswitch.com, it's easy (and free).
There are a lot of FTP programs out on the web that make it so much easier than using a DOS window.
So, the short answer is that you can't do it with BC9...better off with a spare HDU and swap them out
occasionaly to keep them updated.

You used to be able to do it with MDDISKTOOL and a special SCSI cable that would dump directly to a
PC, but I don't know if that is still available. Also, PCREGEN can handle something similar..basically,
it sucks all the data off the system with a series of print commands,
and regenerates files that will rebuild the system from ground zero. It is NOT a backup of the system, just the
customer data (routes, phones, etc...) that will recreate your system in the event that you have to reload from
a brand new disk with no backup on it.

you can also telnet on bc10 as the niu is used on bc10 as well

W/o eth port on your i/o board (like IPU) u can do nothing with telnet but with pc soft disk (ancient) or md disk tool (advanced) local of course... Hovewer, some kind people designed programs like rs232/telnet to use on your terminal pc...
