Is it possible to create an archive of just the OPC Message Templates by using either fbackup, Omniback II, Netbackup without taking down the OPC and ITO Manager platforms?

I am not sure if these message templates exist within the Oracle Database or are just flat files. the OPC_backup utility will either backup the whole installation or just the configuration files and the Oracle DB. So, that will not help me.

The big question is are the Message templates exist within the Oracle DB or are just flat files.

The message templates are held in the Oracle database, so it's quite possible to back up the configuration of your ITO system by using a standard Oracle online backup.

Don't forget to backup the rest of your ITO system (the binaries etc) at the same time.

What I have done in the past is to modify the standard backup script to call my own Oracle online backup script instead of the supplied offline backup. That way everything gets backed up. Mike

Thanks for the responce. The reason for wanting to download just the Message Templates is that we want to be able to restore them quickly without having to sort through all the rest of the config to get the Templates. I have found two ways: 1)do the manual online download of the config and pick out the Message Templates. 2) write a wrapper around the opccfgdwn command with a specification file itemizing the templates to be downloaded to the target directory. This has the benifit of being able to be run through our autosys job scheduler once a week and is not therefopr a manual operation.

Oic - sorry, I didn't read your posting correctly.

A wrapper around opccfgdwn is exactly what we do. Mike
