We already backup SQL databases on four servers and I'm trying to add server to the list that also has SQL databases to be backed up. The previous ones were set up by someone else so I'm not sure how to do it. I'm adding the new server to the existing job, ticking the SQL server box but when I try to select the authentication details it fails. As with the others that work fine, I've authenticated via our domain administrator login but this failed. I also tried using the SQL admin login without success. Am I doing something wrong ? I installed the remote agent onto the server but is something else required ?

Backup Exec jobs run under the Backup Exec SERVICE login. So, go to Services and see what login BE services use. That needs to have access to the SQL server.

Suggestion....BEST PRACTICE...have the SQL Server DBA do backups to hard drive using SQL Server BACKUP DATABASE commands. Then use Backup Exec to COPY those backup files to tape.

add the backup exec service account to the Local Administrators group on the SQL server your having issues with.
