When backing up Oracle Parallel Server is the backup processing load spread over all the servers or only on the server where the backup is initiated.

it depends. what type of backup do you want to do? do you have mirrored disks?

Having OPS implies that you are using some sort of disk array (unless you're on linux and can implement OPS on a single node). If your tape backup device is on one of the servers, that server will handle all the load cpu wise.
