Hi All,
I want to backup the files on a remote tape drive through tar command(Normally I use the rsh command with tar to achieve this). I know lot of ways to do that. But can any one tell me the simple and best idea to do it.

Thanks
Suresh

I would use

tar cvfb - 20 . | rsh remote_host dd of=/dev/rmt0 obs=20b

whether that's simpler than any of your existing methods, only you can say.

Whether it's the best, there's bound to be someone with an opinion on that. [wink]
