The method I use to back up our 4.11 Small buisness
Server Data is to use a win 98 Machine to connect as a backup client.

using novell client versin Version 4.03
map the novell server to all apps & data file
using third party software , onstream 30 gb
using USB connection...

the only flaw I see is I am not backing up the server itself
& the NDS TREE..

Any suggestions in also backing up the Novell server & NDS

I would really appreciate it?
thanks in advance...

The third party software needs to specifically state that it can backup the NDS and Server Information. I use Backup Exec to backup all my Novell Servers. On each of the servers I have to load two nlm's

TSANDS.NLM
TSA410.NLM

This allows the server to present itself to the backup software in order for it to backup the NDS and Server Information. If your software say's it will backup Novell then load the two NLMs and you should see it under the software...

As Sobak says, you need a decent backup solution. The one you currently have will work to a limit, but it would probably be advisable to invest a little money to save a lot of pain should a problem occur.

You will not be able to connect your USB backup device to your server and run backup software from there as USB is not supported under NetWare. You may be able to buy a product such as BackupExec or Arcserve and run it on a Windows 2000 Server/Workstation (NT does not support USB) along with your USB device. You would have to research a backup product to see whether your existing hardware would work with any new software however. -----------------------------------------------------
