Hi,

I have a customer who has a huge amount of macros in word, their network needs to be re-done and I need to make sure that I have the macros backed up?
Is there an easy way to do this?
Thanks
Grace

copy to a text file ?

Rgds, Geoff

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Please read FAQ222-2244 before you ask a question

Are the macros in Normal.dot? This is unfortunately where most people put their macros. That is because Word uses normal.dot as the default location. This is a BAD idea. BAD.

If they are NOT in normal.dot, then they must be in another template file. Hopefully they are not in a document file.

In any case, you can copy (or move) your macros into another template - hey call it MyMacros.DOT. Use the Organizer to do this. Then...voila! you have a file that just has your macros. You can back it up just like any other file.

When you say they a huge amount of macros, could you be more specific? Macros are in files. They are not held in Word itself. So really, simply backing up those files, backs up the macros.

Of course you can backup normal.dot (if that is where your macros are). Again, this is a BAD idea. Every installation of Word has its own normal.dot, so having a central source for macros (NOT normal.dot) is a GOOD idea. They are called global templates. Use them.
