Hello people

What is the correct way to backup IIS 5 with arcserve 2000

I have selected to backup both the registry and system state on the IIS server, but am not sure if restoring this will restore the IIS settings.

Im talking about all the virtual sites, i.e all the host headers and different settings per each site.

There is no particular agent for IIS as there is with Exchange, SQL, etc. The safest way to get IIS information would be to schedule a time where it could be shut down and backup as flat files (I know this is difficult in the real world, but all database software makers of any kind recommend offline backups as the best way of having a point to restore from). If you cannot do the offline backup, the only other option will be the Backup Agent for Open Files. You can group the files you need for IIS together. The agent will then wait for all of these files to not be written to for a specified amount of time (adjustable by the user -- do not set to zero since this will give no stability to the files). Once the write inactivity period is reached for all files in the group, the "snapshot" will be taken to write to tape. The problem is, on a really active IIS server, you can have files that are too active for BAOF (Backup Agent for Open Files) to get. There is a setting for the total time the agent will wait to get the file so that the job will not wait forever.

Hope this helps, if you need me to try to explain further/better let me know and I will try.
