I am having a very difficult time attempting to backup my exchange server. I can backup a random number of mailboxes at once but when I attempt to backup the entire server (i.e. all the mailboxes ), it fails saying that access has been denied. Please help! :( I am using backup exec 7.0 - 7.3

Is Backup Exec on the same server as Exchange or on a different server?

Does the Information store and Directory store backup ok?

What Event ID's are you getting?

Have a look at the below link and check rights etc (for mailbox backups)

How to configure Backup Exec 7.3 and 8.x to backup individual mailboxes from Microsoft Exchange version 5.x and 2000

This is the log file from the backup if this helps -

THANKS for the responce!

Well, the fact that 17,798 message WERE backed up leads me to believe there is either something specifically different about the mailboxes in question (is it always the same mailboxes that fail during a full mailbox backup?) or something grabbing exclusive rights to different mailboxes at different times so that a full backup will run into a conflict while a random short mailbox backup will not. Also, are you backing up the Exchange Directory or IS (Information Store) while you are backing up the mailboxes? or is it just a single tape drive that is connected? Check for things like Exchange maintenance or Exchange anti-virus as possible culprits of the "lock-out" of certain mailboxes. If its always the same mailboxes then this is probably not the cause. In that case I would suggest copying that mail data to a .pst file and re-creating the mailbox in-case certain mailbox containers are in need of repair.

jamkey,

Thanks for the responce...

The facts are (as best as I can describe) as follows :

**The Goal is to have a clean Backup of all the mailboxes.**

A.) When I backup one mailboxe or as many as 10 (thats all I've attempted as singles) I can back them up with no problem.

B.) When I select all the mailboxes, I get the error of Access denied even on the ones I've backed up as singles.

C.) I've attempted both with the information store and without it. Both Fail.

Thanks again in advance for any other help!
