Backing up Exchange Information store

I have BE v7.3 and I'm having trouble backing up my Exchange information store (exchange 5.5). It gets hung up when it's doing a backup, and it always seems to fail around the same number of bytes. When you're in the Job Monitor page, it says the job is running, but the number of bytes that is backed up doesn't change, and when you look at the tape drive, it's not doing anything.

The log files say "Drive is not responding. Backup set aborted." Therefore, I thought there was something wrong with the tape drive (ADIC Fastor DLT7000), so I replaced it with a new one. It still doesn't work. I've used different tapes, so I know it's not the tapes either. I've recreated the jobs, and tried running those, and still not working. It's been doing this for the past week.

I came in this weekend, saw that it was hung up again, restarted the job, and when I came in this morning, there was no record of the job. I got a dr. watson bengine.exe error, so I'm guessing that that's why the job got deleted.

I haven't had a good backup in about 2 weeks, so I DESPERATELY need help on this.
