I am using Arcserve 6.61 AE. I am trying to back up exchange 5.0. Arcserve is on a 2000 machine and exchange 5.0 is on a NT 4.0 domain controller. I get the error E8602 failed to read from database (dbname=information store ec=backup agent error -- (68) status error in named pipes.

I have a backup account, it is domain admin, administrator, and backup operator. It has service accout admin rights on all levels of exchange. It is my service account in arcserve, it also is my account for excange agent. It is not the account that installed arcserve.

I do not know what service packs have been applied. How do I tell? Where can I find the newest downloads? Is this an error that can be fixed by a sp? Could this be an issue with the exchange databases?

You can find out the build numbers by looking at the properties of your server within the manager view.

I would advise on service packing up to the latest one.

I have had these problems with the exchange agent before we upgraded to AS2000. It may be worth mentioning that my final solution to AS Exchange agent errors (which we get on 2000 as well) was to take the F*cking thing off and use NTBackup.exe.

If you would like some advice on how to use this then reply.

If you really wanna persist with the agent then check the following:

Check in the properties of the exchange agent service that it is logging on as the account you use and re-type the p/w (sounds stupid but...).

Put the exchange agent into debug mode (set in the registry) and check the output file for a more detailed desc.

Hope this helps.
