I'm having a problem backing up our Domino Server. We have Domino Server running on a Windows 2K server and being backup up using Arcserve. The hardware we are using is an Archos Dat drive with DDS4 tapes.

Our nightly backups stop at 19.6GB and look for another tape to finish backing up the data, even though we have compression enabled and are using DDS4 20/40 tapes.

Our mail files (*.nsf) are over 25GB in total, and its only since we have gone over 20GB that we had the problem.

I've ruled out the actual DAT drive, because the exact same issue arrises if i try to backup the files from another servers DAT drive, which backs up 30GB each night without any problem.

Has anybody come accross this problem of compressing these mail files before ? Any suggestions would be welcome.
Cheers

Paul

Hello,
We use Notes and back up via Arcserve, but I am unsure what the problem is? Is the job failing, Notes crashing? etc...

Let me know. I might be able to help.

Hi

This is normal for Arcserve to ask fo another tape, the compression Ratio varies on all backup jobs and its the low number which you need to go by. ie 20/40 Gb means you may only get 20 Gb out of a tape ( I have never seen 40 Gb). So untill you can reduce the mail database's by running a compact or setting up archiving you will need to change tapes. Try archiving some of the larger database's and then run a compact with file size reduction. Works for me or is good if you are running out of disk space.

Good luck

David
