There was another thread posted on this I found, but was a little confused by the workaround-

I'm trying to back up an 8x24 with DR5.1 using NRU 9.0 and I am getting the error code that states Source and destination DR variants don't match. The solution on the other thread was:

"edmunddantes (Vendor) Feb 27, 2003
Eureka!!!!!! I used NRU 9.1 with norstar manager 3.5 and have successfully performed a backup. With the 9.1 version I can select what operating system I want to use Win 95,98, etc...
Thanks for all of your help.
ps Sam you are absolutely correct, if I use XP or 2000 I need 3.7. Thanks again."

If Norstar Manager 3.7 is what comes with NRU 9.0, why would Norstar Manager 3.5 come with NRU 9.1?? Is there somewhere I can get a copy of Norstar Managewr 3.5 so that I can backup an 8x24 (getting the same error message stated here) as far as an upgrade download from Nortel or something? What about NRU 10?

I've got a customer who's cartridge is shot, but yet refuses to buy another one- so when they lose power, about 40 DID's have to be reconfigured in addition to all those pesky matching ext #'s...this would be a great help!

TIA!

Use NRU 1.0 or something like that It only works with windows 95/98. You install it with 3 floppy diskettes.

I tried backing the switch up with norstar manager 3.5 (since the NRU version doesn't really matter, I think since you don't use it, only Norstar Manager) and still ended up getting the same issue. On both an XP machine as well as a 98 machine. Can't figure out why the thing keeps giving me the "source/destination mismatch" type error.

Any ideas? How did you finally get it to work? Was there anything specific that you had to do?

TIA.

Norstarguy,
Your problem might be that when you did the ADD SYSTEM before doing the backup, the system type, software version etc. have to match exactly, even the System language: English/French, English/Spanish. If they don't match, you will get the error that you are getting.

Thanks for the tip, Marvo- I did think of that, but it didn't get me anywhere...

System is setup as modular with DR5, tried both english/french and english/spanish, received the same error every time.

Norstarguy, I feel like I am missing something really stupid here, but cannot seem to connect my brain to the process here. Are you doing it remotely, or direct?
I would be glad to give it a try remotely for you to see if we can narrow it down.

With 8x24 DR5 and N*Mgr 3.5, the backup function is "not available." It supposedly was available as of N*Mgr 3.7.

Hdingman,
NM 3.5 works for me. Am able to do both backup, and restore, but am using the older stuff on an older W95 machine.

OK, my machine is 2K. I'll dig up a dinosaur and try it.
thanks.

Well, The customer I was trying to back up had a transformer blow up on Thursday...so I ended up having to reprogram the entire switch on Friday afternoon :-/

I did finally sell them the replacement software this time however, so at least I succeeded in that.
