Folks,
We are backing up a fairly large SSAS database. We have begin getting the error "One of the data files is too large to be stored inside a .cab file. File name D:\...Fact_Table.fact.data". This happens when using the msmdarch and via the SSAS GUI. Does any one have any ideas on how to backup this cube (short of removing all the data from it, backing it up empty and then reprocessing it)?

Is this a SSAS 2005? THe base issue is that you have a datafile that is larger than 2GB. These are typically the aggregation files that exceed the allowed size.

SSAS 2000. I know the issue, I'm trying to work around it.

I used to encounter this problem in SSAS 2K and it typically occured in cubes that had a distinct count measure along with other measures.

If this is the case then the fix is to put the distinct count measure in it's own cube and then join the 2 cubes in a virtual cube.

The distinct count in a seperate cube fixes a lot of issues and also improves perfromance.

OK, thanks. We'll look into that as an option.
