question about backing up,

does any1 know how to back up dns and ad at the same time?
lets say i have a box i want to back up my dns and ad, i know you can back up ad via system state, but this way you need to install ad first which of course you need to add dns before you can do a restore.

lets say i had a box with a fresh install of 2003 but no services have been installed, would it be possible to to create a back up of ad and dns with out isntalling those services 1st?

btw its on a different machine with different hardware.

i tried a system state backup and c drive back up it installed it on a new server install with no services and it seems to install the services the only problem is the dns and dhcp.
i was trying to back up my dc that has rras ad dns dhcp then restoring it on a different machine with different hardware.
your able to do it on the same machine but trying to find out how to do it on a machine that is totally different.

sorry porkchopexpress what i meant to say was i have a dc with all the services running i wanted to back them up then restore the backup on to another machine that has different hardware and no services running.

ok let me get this;

ill back up only my system state from sv1 which is a GC (ad and dns are intergrated )burn it onto a cd,

1)then i install server2003 on my new machine(sv2) which has new hardware that is different from from sv1.

2)then i copy the back up disk to my hard drive on sv2.
3) on my new machine(sv2) i install ad and dns.
4) then i reset my pc in safe mode run the backup file
5)restart sv2 and the ad and dns should be the same as sv1?
6) follow the dhcp tut u posted.
the end result my sv2 will be the same as sv1.

thx porkchopexpress i saved those links to word

That's the theory i've only ever tried that in the lab but it's worth you trying it first.
