Anyone know if this is possible?
We have a customer looking to upgrade from ips 2000 ( this supports bacground music) to sv8300 - no mention of background music in any sv8300 manuals ?

To my knowledge, it is no longer listed or supported. NEC expects most users to have IP phones and background music uses too much bandwidth.

I don't know the answer to this, and I agree with Belvedere's answer, but isn't it a shame that we are losing features just to go to voip? The question still remains however, how do you allow background music for legacy handsets?

For BGM on TDM phones, try following the CMDs from an older system manual, then use COS to restrict it's use by IP phones.

DAxx is not a valid trunk anymore
-Engineering say its no longer a feature

Below is from the SV8300 Features and Specifications manual.
In short, not supported.

Service Conditions on Legacy Service Features

3. Service features requiring continuous voice transmission, such as the Background Music feature, cannot be used because this traffic may reduce overall performance of the Local Area Network (LAN).
