The backdrop of my Photoshop-generated splash page is a smooth, even gradient running from top to bottom.

I wanted to check with you Web/Adobe wizards out there the best way to prepare/optimise the backdrop for HTML.

Should I take a thin slice from top to bottom and get it to repeat itself across the width of the page?

As always, your assistance would be much appreciated.

Gradients for web page backgorunds are never a good idea because they need to be full size - and you'll need one for each screen resolution (or use the largest one). Also. doing this creates slow download times becasue the background image can be huge!

Taking a slice and tiling it will only give you a repeating patten of your slice and won't produce a gradient.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!
