background colour is filling in table backgound image

Not 100% sure what you mean? Have you got a transparent GIF as the background image and you've set the BGCOLOR of the table/cells?

It's hard to know what's going on really. If I copy and paste your code and place my own image I don't have any problems. Don't want to sound patronising but have you tried things like: cellpadding, cellspacing etc?
If worst came to worst try rebuilding the page. If you're using Frontpage (or sometimes Dreamweaver) they can alter your code as they see fit, which isn't always best. "Life is like a Ferrari, it goes to fast.

Stumped mate! You can send me the file and the cell bg image plus the transparent gif over the top and i'll have a look if you want. Other then that, sorry.

why not set the bgcolor of the cell to white
