THe B/U Restore card was yanked out of a working system, with the power on. Will this cause damage as the card did say do not pull from a system that has the power on.

Also this card says "UPGRADE" on it. What upgrade could it refer to?

It'll just cause the system to restart - should be no damage to the card. And, yes, some cards started their life as upgrade cards, in addition to backup/restore and remote access. For a long time, R6's came with a perfectly good R6 upgrade that wasn't needed, as they were already R6's

would those cards work still for doing an upgrade.

You do not always get what you pay for, but you never get what you do not pay for.

Those cards were a one time upgrade. What we were doing when replacing an earlier release was upgrade the existing system to R6 save it to the card and restore it to the new processor.

If you're a BP, you can purchase additional upgrade licenses and reprogram the card each time it is used.
