Back Up Exc 11d Restore

We are using Backup Exec 11D GRT to backup our Exchange 2003 to a tape drive. I was told by SYmantec to restore an individual maibox, the BE has to stage a backup of all the information store to the local NTFS volume.
BUT I dont have enough space on my exchange server for the staging of my information store.
IS there a way out of this?

You can try attaching a usb hard drive other then that there is nothing else you can do. Even the newer versions of the software require the staging area to be local.

Adding a USB drive, is that local volume or the machine looks it as a NAS device.
