Getting this error in back up:
Error:

The media family on devise "Drive specification" is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family. BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally.

BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP LOG [test] TO DISK = N'G:\logfile\testlog' WITH INIT , NOUNLOAD , NAME = N'test', NOSKIP , STATS = 10, NOFORMAT

Does it say:
incorrectly formed
or incorrectly formatted?

If it's the latter, then the tape has never been formatted for the drive. Run the format command on the tape device to format the tape.

it says incorrectly fromed!!! but i am trying to take back up in the Hard drivewith is G:/

Try removing NOUNLOAD. That command is for tapes only. Also, you are not using the Expire command, so get rid of the NOSKIP command as that's only if you are setting an Expire value.

i tried that and getting same error back is this:::::
incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family.
along with the series of this

"
BlkHeader from strip 0 At 38a86400 ExpectedAt 38a86400 Size f000 PrevSize f000
"

Hear that sound? It was my hand slapping my forehead.

Try this change:

TO DISK = 'G:\logfile\testlog.bak'

Get rid of the N and add the extension to the filename. (I think it's really the missing extension that is a problem, but none of the examples shows the unicode N being used - so take it out also).
