Back-to-Back Router Connection

You can go as fast as the serial port can go.. but just for reference, the Cisco Academy class labs normally set the links at 56Kbps which is fine for a lab. For DDR and rollover testing.. 1.54Mbps works great.

the 56kbps is not hte speed but the clock rate. I think the physical bandwidth for a serial link is like 3-4.5 mbps. I do know that the 2500 series routers can only handle 768kbps on a WANinterface. That is why you can not have a 2500 use a full t-1 (constantly) unless there is an issue.
 
Just see what the highest clock rate the interface can operate on. That's you're highest speed.
