I hate to cross post, but I did not know which forum to post in.....

I am trying to backup to a File System device. I can create and backup to a file system created locally on the same server as BAB is currently running. If I try to create a FS on a remote share, I create the device OK, but in the Device Manager window I see that it says "No Media in Device" I think the problem is an authentication problem but I have looked at the obvious ... The system account has full privileges over the remote share.

HI,

Just map the remote share onto the arcserve server...

cheers

Yes, I have mapped the drive, but it isn't working. I guess I should have been more clear. This is a mapped drive I am trying to use.

Hi,
are you by any chance using Microsoft Windows 2003 server ? I have noticed the same problem when running BAB9 on Windows 2003 server. Myself, I use Brightstor Enterprise Backup 10.0 and had the same problem on Windows 2003 server. I heard from CA that BEB10 is not supported for Windows 2003 server, so we have upgraded to version 10.5 Enterprise backup and this works.
What happens if you would "downgrade" to Windows 2000 server or at least try this on a test server with Windows 2000 server? I think your problem ought to be solved then.

Hi
1-Go to services on BrightStor ARCserve Server and find “BrightStor Arcseve Tape Engine”
Service ,Right Click properties, select Log On tab use the a Domain Account Which is having a full control on the remote shared folder.

2-Stop and start the “BrightStor ARCserve Tape Engine” Service

3-On the remote machine you have to change the sharing permissions on the shared folder and add the Domain Account which you have used while installing BrightStor ARCserve

4- run Device Configuration and recreate the FSD files System Disk and restart the tape Engine.

5- When you go to BrightStor Enterprise and select Manager Device the Tape Should appear as <Blank Tape> then you can format it and give it a name

If the tape appear as <No Media in Drive > it mean still you have a problem in sharing permission, check the remote machine shared folder and follow the above steps again

Note: If BrightStor ARCserve installed using the Domain Account you just need to follow from step # 3

regards,
mohamdr
