B2D folders filling up with "overwiteable" media

Fairly new to B2D and struggling along.

Altho I set short periods for overwrite protection, the sets still sit there as overwritable using lots of disk space. Once overwritable, can't I reclaim the space without "erasing"? What am I doing wrong?
