B179 Conference phone Installation Problem

Hello,

I am installing a conference phone on our IPO 500v2 8.1 and can't get the phone to work. I have created the user, extension and Incoming call routes to the new extension and saved the configuration.

Once saved though, I now have a error message "The number of non-Avaya IP extensions configured exceeds the number licensed".
I also expected to see the phone type under the Extn tab in the Extension section but it still says "Unknown SIP device".

The phone has received an IP address via DHCP and is certainly reachable on the network but has not registered and is certainly not working.

At this stage, I am not sure what I am missing (hopefully something small and simple) so I'm looking for some assistance.

Thanks in advance.
Chazz.

Have you entered the system details like IP address, username and password into the phone? They use an Avaya endpoint licence so that error is not relevant anyway :)

Hi Smokinjoe,

From what I can tell, I have 22 IP endpoints licenses (12 Virtual Avaya IP endpoints and 2x 5 Avaya IP endpoint licenses). I see only 6 SIP extensions defined so I can't see how I need additional licenses unless there is a specific license for the B179. I have also got 13 H323 extensions defined but I am not sure if that is included in the IP endpoint allocation.

Look up at my last post. But why do you have 6 SIP extns but no SIP/3rd party licences? The one SIP extn for the B179 is OK but why 5 others?

amriddle,

I've got 5 3rd Party IP Endpoints in the system as well. I have added the username and password credentials in the Manager but couldn't add an IP address because the phone is using DHCP. Do I need to assign a static IP address for the phone?

You can use SSA and click on licensing to find your current license usage.

No, you need to tell the B179 phone the system IP address the extn number and password etc, as per the screenshot of ours below:

Don't worry about the licence error, it's irrelevant and you have enough spare either way. You need to get it registered, did you see my last? :)

I did and I got it registered so we're making good progress. Now I just need to get outbound and inbound (external) calls working.

Thanks for your help.

ps. The error is gone now.

Yes, the error goes once the B179 registers as it uses an Avaya endpoint licence. It follows shortcodes for dialling out like any other extn, it works best if you dial before pressing the green handset key :)
