Bootup is hanging on this code. To fix the problem it says to upgrade the microcode, but what it dosen't tell you is to how to get it booted up to upgrade. Any suggestions on getting past this and getting the machine booted up will be helpful.
In our case the solution was to plug off all power cables and leave the machine without power for some hours. Next we had to connect an ASCII terminal and power-on the machine.
It then automatically booted into the service menu where we had the chance to choose an option to install the microcode/firmware from floppy disk (Most machines have a floppy drive hidden behind the cover somewhere ...) and voila ...
I don't know whether the exact procedure is going to work in your environment or not, but if not maybe at least this will give you a hint in what direction to look for further information ...
I think the important parts are
1) Get the machine to boot into the service menu
2a) Locate the floppy drive under the cover (if your machine has one)
3) Install the microcode/firmware from floppy disks (The exact procedure how to download and copy it to the disks is described on the IBM pages where you can download the code update) choosing the option in the service menu (You might have to browse through the options a bit. I think it was hidden somewhere deep in the menu structure.).
