B132l MONITOR PROBLEMS!

Hi

I have just bought an HP b132l and have plugged in a monitor greater than 17" and I get the following on screen:

When it starts up, all I get on the monitor are 8 blocks at the bottom, with the text "Remote Mode", "Display Function" and "Auto LF"

Any ideas ? - It is plugged into the video card.

Hi maxcrook,

I guess that you are not getting a login prompt, but can log in remotely.
In which case, check that there is a getty running on the console with
#ps -ef | grep getty
if it isn't running check /etc/inittab make sure that it's in, not commented out, set to respawn and has the correct run levels associated.
i.e something like

cons:123456:console:respawn:/usr/sbin/getty console console

If you need to make any changes to /etc/inittab, issue an init q to reread this file

Thanks for that I have now been able to locate the problem, the keyboard was not working properly so I tried it with a newer one and the prompts were returned as it should have been. Thanks
