All,

I am posting this here as I see this as an email issue and do not know , specifically, what other forum it would apply to at this time.

Question:

Having mail at a hosted website, what steps or applications will I have to employ to effect a store and forward on request from my server to download all mail.

Background:

I have an SBS server with Exchange 2003. We would like to centralize email through this Exchange server. We currently have each client accessing the hosted site mail using POP3 in Outlook.

We have our web site hosted and use this .com address for mail. I ran across the store & forward on request method of downloading mail from the hosted mail site to the local server.

The article stated that this would work if the Host would support it. I contacted the Host, and basically, they stated that I could run a script or program to accomplish this. As this is shared hosting & not a dedicated server, I do not have access to the server Root directory.

We also are using a dynamic IP assignment and do not want to convert to a static IP to use the "Forward Domain" scheme.
We specifically want to remain insulated from the open internet hence the "On request" scheme.

I checked and the mail exists in the area attached to this website.

I have also looked at "SendMail". "qmail", and postfix" for a solution. I have not found an explanation that I believe I can use. As I understand, if this were a dedicated server (Linux) that I could run any of these apps. As this is Hosted I am unsure of how to implement this in that environment.

Sorry for the dis-jointed post.

Hoping that some one can point me in the correct direction.

Thank You for your consideration

If you are going to use linux, look at Fetchmail in combination with any of the MTA's that you've mentioned above.

nickpark & smah,

Thank you for reading and posting to this question.

Nick,
I was actually looking at staying away from POP3, and using ETRN like functionality. As ETRN requires a *.com address to forward to for security, I was looking to use the older(less secure) TURN command. I know how to implement this on the SBS box but am at a loss as to what I need at the Hosted website end to enable this.

Smah,
Yes fetchmail would be an excellent choice if the receiving server was on Linux. This is MS SBS with exchange unfortunately.

Sorry, I misunderstood - I thought the ISP's was the Exchange server. and that "I have also looked at "SendMail". "qmail", and postfix" for a solution." was for the server on your end.
