Several months ago we started migrating to Office 2003 from Office 2000. On the PCs running Office 2003 I have noticed that no icon is diplayed in Windows Explorer for Outlook .msg files. It seems to make no difference whether Office 2003 was installed as an upgrade or as clean install with no previous Office version ever being installed. It also seems to make no difference whether the operation system is Windows 2000 or Windows XP. When I look at the Windows Explorer setting for the .msg file type everything looks correct. An icon is selected from OUTLOOK.EXE or OUTICON.EXE, but no icon is ever displayed. Has anyone else seen this happen after installing Outlook 2003? If so, do you have a fix for it?

TweakUI has a repair tab which includes Rebuilding Icons.
This may resolve your problem.

TweakUI said:
Description:
Rebuilds all Explorer icons and removes unused Explorer icons from memory.
Rebuild icons when you find that Explorer is displaying the wrong icon for that program or shortcut.

John,

Thanks, but TweakUI did not rebuild the .msg file icon. :-(
