I want to make the phone have external dialtone when the handset is lifted,still learning IPO

not a good idea, but if you absolutely must then put a line appearance on the first button rather than an appearance button.
Nevertheless I have to repeat myself that this is not a good idea and the system is a PBX not a key system and should be treated as such

?D to ARS - we do this all of the time for fax machines.

Create a short code in the extn users short code area ( not in the main system short code section)

Code N ,dial , Telephone number N

This way the extn short code takes first choice over other system short codes.
Now when you lift the handset you get external dialtone.

I use for fax/ credit card machine.

I agree with the above two for fax's, c/c mach's, doorphones , elevators and the like but, like Westi said: Its a PBX not a key system.
