Has anyone been successful in running Crystal 8.0 on the new Microsoft VISTA?
So far, we have been unsuccessful.
When our software executes the OCX connection, the program "freezes" or sometimes shows a "Caption" box. The Crystl32.ocx did register sucessfully.

I'm unsure of whether any higher version of CR works with Vista. Has anyone successfully used any version of CR with Vista?

We recently installed a new PC running Vista and found we couldn't install Cr8, Cr 8.l5 or any of our CR 8.5 utilities on that version of Windows. CR 9, 10 and XI did install ok.

Our plan is to have some Virtual PC's on the Vista machine running XP and the older versions on each of those. As we need to support clients on everything from CR 6 to CR XI that seems to be the only solution.

Does CR-6 even run on XP...?

We had to keep an old Windows-98 machine around to go that far back.....

chelseatech,

Have you run a variety of reports on the Vista machine with XI? In other words, do you feel confident that XI is fully functional after testing?

I just installed v8.5 on a vista laptop (home basic) and haven't seen any problems. The only test I did so far was running a report from the sample database, but it installed and ran fine.

Crystal 8 came out in 1999. Time to upgrade. Of course, if you were serious about upgrading, you wouldn't be using Vista. :)
