can someone plese explain to me why use awk
man decription of awk, too high level. Sumthing like Greek to me !! I always hear about this command but don't know its usage. Thnaks

Awk can be used to alter standard reports from
SAP, MFGPRO and other systems.

To get the report the user want you can
1 alter the SAP program that generates the report
2 Use AWK the alter the standard report.

you can filter lines with certain property

A 1000 page report can often be reduced to several pages.

Example:
Texfile
Aa bb cc
Ff gg hh

Awk ‘{ print $2}’ Textfile

Result
Bb
Gg


The main purpose is to alter text.
