When I import an AVI clip into the timeline it appears to be solid black. MPEG or MOV clips show the video frames. Is there any reason AVI clips don't show the frames? I've tried different codecs to capture and captured with VirtualDub. The AVI clips all play just fine in the Monitor, they just don't show the frames in the timeline. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Black clips general suggest illegal settings for the CODEC in use for the project. Check the settings viewer and resolve any red entries on the video side.

DV is very fussy about frame size, so make especially sure you are using a legal DV setting if that is your CODEC.

Using a standard project preset is a good way to get this right.
