AVG network use

I got a message today that I may be running AVG free out of license parameters (running on a work machine along with Symantec). It said something about being detected running on a network.
Question; how does it detect this?

I dont know how (or if) AVG free can do this, but there are lots of ways that any appliction can detect the presence of a network.

AVG free even gives you the option of updating through a proxy server, which is virtually the same as telling it that you have a network IMHO.
