Hello All,

First post here, have searched for my problem prior to posting but nothing really covers it.

A little history on the problem, i have tried countless times to set up a remote desktop on my current network. But i fear that although AVG firewall states it has ports open i.e 3389 RDP listening port, running the netstat -a command and the port is not listed.

I have spent many hours on the phone to BT about this, its a business line si they offered to check and double check that their router was configured properly which is was ports 80,3389 and the predefined exception for WIN XP RDP was added and activated. This left AVG firewall getting in the way, i have followed the user manual and the instructions that i ahve found on this forum to all the rule, as far as AVG's firewall is concerned the ports are open and the rule is added. But when trying to RD locally and remotely the connection is logged by the firewall then blocked every time.

Other ways i ahve tried to over come this, i have reset all permissions on the machine in question, i have reset the firewall and built a new profile from scratch i have tried using both home and small bus network profile and computer on domain profile. I have added manully the rules to both profiles. I have tried installing real and tight VNC thinking as it was a program it would be easy just to add as an expection, everytime the connection is logged then refused.

Out going RDP connections are fine, same with using programs like cross loop and go to my PC.

It is AVG 8.5 on a Win XP PRO machine with SP3 installed. I am reluctant to uninstall AVG firewall and use Windows own as i have paid for its service!

Please help me, i am loosing more and more hair every day. I am an IT technician by trade so i have done the 'Check the obvious' list.

If you need more info please just ask.

Thanks for your help in adavnce

Just to double check, you say that you have a paid for version of the full AVG Security suite including the firewall?

If so my second question would be have you contacted AVG support? Your product should be fully supported.
If you don't want to do this there is also an AVG support forum, and a version for the free products (don't post on the free forum if you have a paid version)

If you cannot sort it and as you are an IT Tech I would consider turning off the AVG Firewall and using COMODO firewall (Its Free!)

Hello,

Thank you for your reply, do you know what did not even think about contacting AVG direct. So used to doing it the hardway.

Will contact AVG asap and then get back to you, maybe the results of this might help someone else with the same issue. It is a fully paid for lience, and did have a back up plan which was to revert to another firewall i am happy using.

Thanks again :)
