Whilst I was online looking at some sites, the following message appeared:
“AVG email scanner connecting to AutoPOP3 server 164.XXX.XXX.ozerki.net”
At the time I didn’t have my email program running.
Ozerki.net seems to be a Russian server (a worrying sign!).
I run Windows XP.
The following software is installed on my machine.
AVG version 7.5.488
Virus base 269.13.37/1042
A Squared Free (latest updated version)
Adaware
Spybot Search and Destroy.
Windows Firewall
Outlook Express is my email program, which I use frequently. I also have Mozilla Thunderbird installed but I never use it.
I also use a P2P program as well – eMule.
I also frequently game online too.
I run my scans frequently and if I do look at porn sites(not very often), I always make sure I run my scans immediately after visiting them.
Anyway, after seeing the above message, I ran all my scans, each of which found some sort of spyware/malware. I’m not really sure how it had got there as I hadn’t visited any questionable sites that I was aware of – some shopping sites.
Since running the scans I haven’t come across any sudden “connecting to AutoPOP 3 server” messages.
It may be the case that I had forgotten to run my scans but nonetheless it’s a worrying sign.
Could it be that there’s spyware/malware on my system that the scans have missed?
